MILK THISTLE

 

Silybum is an annual herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family, native to Western Europe and North Africa, with an erect stem and a height of about 1.2 m. Introduced to China in 1972, because of its strong medicinal value, it was cultivated in Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Hebei, Shaanxi and other provinces, and flowered and bore fruit from May to October.

 

The plant prefers cool and dry climate, but not high temperature. It has strong adaptability and the soil should be loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam. It is now mainly produced in Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang region.
